WASHINGTON, DC –
WASHINGTON, DC – In response to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upholding a lower court’s ruling that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is illegal, State Business Executives Board of Directors issued the following statement.
“Today’s ruling on DACA will have a negative impact on our country. Given the current difficulties we face with our workforce and economy, employers can’t afford any additional setbacks. We call on Congress to adopt a permanent legislative solution that allows Dreamers to keep living, working, and studying in the United States.” Justin Yancy, State Business Executive Board Chair and President of Texas Business Leadership Council.
State Business Executives fervently petitions Congress to take immediate action to protect hundreds of thousands of our nation’s future. Dreamers are hardworking, essential workers and students living and working to improve their lives, the lives of their families, and the communities in which they live, work, study, and contribute. Congressional action that provides a pathway for Dreamers to continue to live and work in the United States with the legal certainty will be a boon for communities and businesses already struggling to find workers in critical industries such as healthcare, hospitality, and construction.
“The continued kicking of the can, in terms of DACA and immigration reform, is disgusting. Addressing this issue is long overdue and is going to finally have real implications on upcoming elections,” said Peter Guzman, Vice-Chair of State Business Executives and President of the Latin Chamber of Commerce, Nevada.
There is bipartisan legislative support, community support, and strong support from the business community to codify a dignified, permanent solution for our nation’s Dreamers and to continue to work on pragmatic, responsible solutions to our current broken immigration system.
